Paradiddaloid 3 – awesome 3/4 drum fill with hidden herta hybrid rudiment

Here's another paradiddaloid that showcases the invaluable single-tap pattern, which helps to keep things moving. The patterns used in Paradiddaloid 3 are similar to the patterns we saw in Paradiddaloid 2, yet there is a marked change to the sound of the end product. This time, Pattern A gets the single tap.

Pattern A

Pattern A is a single eighth note. It is written in 3/4 time since the paradiddaloid product is in 3/4 time.

Pattern B

Pattern B is two sixteenth notes followed by an eighth note. (backwards compared to Pattern A in Paradiddaloid 2)

Paradiddaloid

Let's build our paradiddaloid (ABAABABB):

(about 230 bpm)

The entire paradiddaloid fits into only two measures. For greatest articulation, I recommend alternate sticking.

You can also throw in some diddles for extra speed.

Whether alternating or diddling, be sure to emphasize the sixteenth note rests, especially for the last 6 notes. Otherwise, they can easily turn into triplets. The triplets also sound good, just not in the context of this specific paradiddaloid.

Finally, this paradiddaloid makes a nice fill on the drum kit within a 3/4 groove:
